Mupirocin USP 2.0 % w/ In Ointment base
  • Mode of action

    • Mupirocin is a novel antibiotic produced through fermentation byPseudomonas fluorescens.
    • Mupirocin inhibits isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase, thereby arresting bacterial protein synthesis.
    • Mupirocin has bacteriostatic properties at minimum inhibitory concentrations and bactericidal properties at the higher concentrations reached when applied locally.

  • Indication

    • Treatment for bacterial skin infections, for example,
    • furuncle,
    • impetigo,
    • open wounds, which are typically due to infection by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
    • It is also useful in the treatment of superficial methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections.

  • Dose

    Apply a small amount to the affected area 3 times a day.
