  • Mode of action

    • A non-sedating, 2nd generation, H1 receptor antagonist.
    • A second-generation selectively H1 receptor antagonist. So, it blocks the effects of a chemical which causes symptoms of allergy such as itching.
    • Maximum plasma concentrations are reached after two to three hours after oral application
    • Does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier and is therefore unlikely to cause drowsiness.
    • Used in treatment of allergy symptoms such as hay fever, nasal congestion, and urticarial.

  • Indication

    • Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergies rhinitis.
    • Management of Chronic idiopathic urticaria.
    • allergy, cold cough remedies, antihistamines

  • Dose

    • 12 years and above: 60 mg twice or 180 mg once a day
    • 2-11 of age: 30 mg twice a day
    • 6months -2 years: 15 mg twice a day

    Renal impairment

    • Adult: 60 mg once daily as a starting dose
    • Children 6-11: 30 mg once daily as a starting dose

    Not to be used:
    During pregnancy and lactation

    Note: Apple, orange, and grape fruit juice can decreases the effectiveness of the medicine.
