Mode of action
- A non-sedating, 2nd generation, H1 receptor antagonist.
- A second-generation selectively H1 receptor antagonist. So, it blocks the effects of a chemical which causes symptoms of allergy such as itching.
- Maximum plasma concentrations are reached after two to three hours after oral application
- Does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier and is therefore unlikely to cause drowsiness.
- Used in treatment of allergy symptoms such as hay fever, nasal congestion, and urticarial.

Indication
- Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergies rhinitis.
- Management of Chronic idiopathic urticaria.
- allergy, cold cough remedies, antihistamines

Dose
- 12 years and above: 60 mg twice or 180 mg once a day
- 2-11 of age: 30 mg twice a day
- 6months -2 years: 15 mg twice a day
Renal impairment
- Adult: 60 mg once daily as a starting dose
- Children 6-11: 30 mg once daily as a starting dose
Not to be used:
During pregnancy and lactationNote: Apple, orange, and grape fruit juice can decreases the effectiveness of the medicine.
