Mode of action
- A peripherally acting antimuscarinic, anticholinergic agent
- Works by relaxing the smooth muscle or involuntary muscle that is found in the walls of the stomach, intestines, bowel, bile duct and urinary tract.
- Used as an abdominal-specific antispasmodic
- Used to treat pain and discomfort caused by abdominal cramps, menstrual cramps, or other spasmodic activity in the digestive system. It is also effective at preventing bladder spasms
- Not an analgesic in the normal sense, since it doesn’t ‘mask’ or ‘cover over’ the pain, but rather works to prevent painful cramps and spasms from occurring in the first place.

Indication
- Relief of smooth muscle spasm of the gastrointestinal systems
- Relief of smooth muscle spasm of the genitourinary systems
- Symptomatic relief of irritable bowel syndrome

Dose
Adult: 10-20 mg; may be repeated 3-4 times daily.
