Cefixime 100 - 200mg Tab
  • Mode of action

    • A third generation & a broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic
    • Stops bacteria from multiplication. Its bactericidal action is due to the inhibition of cell wall synthesis
    • Highly stable in the presence of beta- lactamase enzymes. As a result, many organisms resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins due to the presence of beta-lactamases, may be susceptible to cefixime.

  • Indication

    • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
    • Otitis media
    • Pharyngitis and tonsillitis
    • Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
    • Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/ urethral)

  • Dose

    Otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, UTI

      • Adult: 200-400 mg/day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses.
      • Child: 8 mg/kg/day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses; <6 month: Not recommended.
      • Treatment should be continued for 48 hr after disappearance of symptoms.
      • Renal impairment: Dose reduction is necessary.

    Uncomplicated gonorrhoea

        • Adult: 400 mg as a single dose.
        • Renal impairment: Dose reduction is necessary.
