Mode of action
- Mupirocin is a novel antibiotic produced through fermentation byPseudomonas fluorescens.
- Mupirocin inhibits isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase, thereby arresting bacterial protein synthesis.
- Mupirocin has bacteriostatic properties at minimum inhibitory concentrations and bactericidal properties at the higher concentrations reached when applied locally.

Indication
- Treatment for bacterial skin infections, for example,
- furuncle,
- impetigo,
- open wounds, which are typically due to infection by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
- It is also useful in the treatment of superficial methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections.

Dose
Apply a small amount to the affected area 3 times a day.
