  • Mode of action

    It is a β blocker antihypertensive agent. It competes sympathomimetic neurotransmitters such as catecholamines for binding at beta (1)-adrenergic receptors in the heart and vascular smooth muscle, inhibiting sympathetic stimulation. This results in a reduction in heart rate, cardiac output, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and reflex orthostatic hypotension.

    • Angina pectoris
    • Prophylaxis of migraine

  • Side effects

    Brochospasm, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, lethargy, nightmare, impotence, hypotension and depression

  • Precaution

    Peripheral vascular disease, DM, Acute MI, Variant angina

  • Dose

    Hypertension,
    Adult: 25-100mg daily as a single dose depending upon the response.

    Angina pectoris,
    Adult: 50-100mg daily given as a single dose or divided dose. Max dose 200mg daily

    Prophylaxis of migraine,
    Adult: 50-100mg daily
